My Snakes Empty My Snakes

Post  snakefreak Tue Feb 15, 2011 11:39 am

Here are some pics of my rat snakes.

My Red Tailed Green Rat Snake (Gonyosoma oxycephalum). This is one of my very favorite species of snakes! Lots of attitude, and it is a large (females get about 8') bright green colubrid! It is really sad that these get such a bad reputation. Mine is cbb '09, and she is fairly calm most of the time. She tends to bite when being removed from the cage though.

Another cool thing about them is they have a bright blue and black tongue!

My Blue Beauty. Another gorgeous Asian rat snake that gets very large (often 9-10' long) for a colubrid.

These also tend to have a bit of spunk in their attitude.

My Taiwan Beauty. Another awesome Asian rat snake.

Chinese King Rat Snake/Stinking Goddess (Elaphe carinata). These tend to have a bad reputation much like the Gonyos. This is a really awesome snake! The adults have even more black with bright yellow speckling!

Thanks! Yeah, the Red Tailed Green Rat is my favorite out of the group! A great display animal! Since they are arboreal she is always out basking at the top of her perch in her enclosure, or cruising/gliding through the branches!

She's a looker for sure. Nice set ups also from what I can tell. Yep just from looking at them I'm gonna look for some at the tulsa show and see what I can come up with.

Okay, I don't see them often, but I have seen them at an OKC show before. I HIGHLY recommend only getting a cbb, as the wild-caught ones tend to be heavily parasitised (internally and externally), and if not well treated tend to die within weeks of purchase. They are often referred to as "heart-breakers" when wild-caught because they sometimes appear to be doing just fine in captivity, and then one day they will rather suddenly be in terrible shape or even dead.
Captive bred babies tend to be sold for about $100-$175. I'd highly recommend them to anyone that wants a large colubrid that is rather uncommon in collections and that is great for display enclosures! (But you will be bit quite often by them, as they are generally very defensive)

I'm not into colubrids much, however you do have a pretty interesting and unusual collection. I love that blue and black tongue!

Thanks, I have found these Asain rat snakes to be the most fun and interesting to keep (in my opinion)! I really like arboreal colubrids in general, but I really like how these are active in their enclosures, and I love the spunk they all have! I also enjoy keeping snakes that are fairly uncommon in collection most herp collections.
Yeah, but I do know the majority of you guys on the forum are MUCH more into your boas and pythons! lol

I'm definitely a retic man myself when it comes to snakes, hands down.

You definitely do have uncommon snakes, and that's a breath of fresh air honestly.

I think if I were to pick a colubrid of some sort to keep, it would probably be an egg eating snake. They are just too cool.

I might end up buying my Rhinos from them! I should be on his list for cbb baby rhinos (last I talked to him he only had some wc ones I believe). I'd love to buy a pair of Diones and Bamboos from them as well!
