New Red Ackie monitor
Well, it's official. I have ordered my new sub adult male Red Ackie monitor and should have him on Friday of this week. I will post some pics once I get him and some pics of his enclosure. I decided to get a subadult since the babies are hard to handle since they are very small and since I have the adult cage setup already. He is still only about 8-10 months old though and is good sized already.

Re: New Red Ackie monitor
I am very very excited. I am worse than a little kid who was just given a wad of cash and told by my parents that I can go to the toy store and buy whatever I want, however I am stuck at the door waiting for the store to open. I think my wife is excited too, she said she thinks the ackies are really neat since they are small and loaded with tons of personality. Once he gets settled, I will take some pics and post later today.

The part you all have been waiting for!!!!
Here are some pics of my new sub adult male Red Ackie Monitor and his decorated enclosure. I used pavers in a stacked pattern for the basking spot too resemble a retes stack of sorts. The substrate is eco earth mixed with play sand. And he has a hide log on the cool end with a water dish and some plants to explore and a few branches to climb on since they are semi arboreal.

I'll say it again, love those Ackies.
Now you need a yellow one.

Re: New Red Ackie monitor
Thank you everyone. Zak, the reds like mine tend to get 2-2.5 feet in length and on a rare occasion get a little bigger. The yellows typically are 1.5-2 feet. The reds are the more desirable of the two because of the brighter colors, therefore are more expensive than the yellows. Average price range for a yellow baby is $150-$200 and $175-$250 for a sub adult or adult. The red babies average $250-$300 and the sub adults and adults usually go for $300-$375. The bolder the colors, especially in the reds is what drives the cost up. If you watch the internet, you can sometimes get adults that are missing a few toes for really cheap. That is unfortunately one of the drawbacks of ackies, even though they get to be a good size, they have very delicate little toes and tend to lose them from retained sheds, making humidity and soaking very important during a shed. Otherwise the humidity can remain lower.
