My new Savannah Monitor
Below are some pics of my new savannah monitor. It is a yearling so she is already fairly good sized. I will get some measurements once she gets settled in. I got her yesterday and she ate today and acted like she was starved. She ate 2 hopper mice and a quarter cup sized chunk of ground turkey in less than 10 minutes. She is very docile and very handleable, and has an amazing feeding response. Below are a few pics that I took today, the quality is okay since they were from my cell phone.

Congrats man! Savannah's are so cool! We had one a few years back but it got out and we never saw it again.

Thanks everyone. Larry, I intend to feed her every other day at least until she puts a little more weight on around her hips and tail. She looks really good otherwise. She is very gentle and lets me work in the cage with no issues. She is already going to the bathroom and eating so I know that she has no problems with that so far. No missing toes or claws, bright reddish brown eyes, and nice spotting on her back.

Re: My new Savannah Monitor
Thanks Pat. She is real calm in the cage and when I handle her, but look out when you feed her. When I put the 1st mouse in she looked bewildered since I was feeding her in a big plastic tub instead of in the cage, but when I went to put the 2nd mouse in she almost jumped out of the tub to grab the mouse from the feeding tongs. And when i put the chunk of turkey in she bit at it like it was alive and she was trying to kill it. Since her feeding response is so aggressive she will only be fed in another tub away from the cage to keep from becoming cage aggressive. But all in all I think she is going to be even better natured than Marley was.

She ate real good again last night. This time a dozen large crickets and 2 large hopper mice to give her a variety. It was very comical to see a larger lizard like her chasing the crickets. I was amazed when I saw her yesterday after returning home from work, she has already started filling out around the hips and base of the tail, just from the big meal she had on Satuday. I have never seen a reptile that gains weight that quick, even my wife could see the difference in her from when she first arrived.

Re: My new Savannah Monitor
From now on my new Sav. will be known as Stormy. I thought that name would be appropriate since it was stormy weather the day I got her, and since I don't fully know how she is going to behave when it comes to handling her a lot.

Re: My new Savannah Monitor
Cameron, they are awesome. They grow extremely fast as well. She has already gained 3-4 oz in weight since I first got her, and for a yearling she measures in at 20" already. I got to measure her last night when she fell asleep in a warm bath in the tub. I wish she would have been a little smaller when I got her so I could see the majority of her growth, but I am happy with her the way she is. I don't have to worry about getting her through the fragile hatchling stage. Plus she is very good natured for her size, when I first got her and saw how big she was I was worried that she may have some bad habits already and be cage aggressive, but she is being a good girl for now. Once she gets settled in for another week I am going to work with her every day to get her used to being handled and let her start roaming the house so she can get used to it as well. I will keep posting pics of her growth progression as I take them.

That's awesome! I'm glad that you got a docile one! My Timor Monitor is a little devil! lol
And I knew that they grew fast, but I hadn't realized that they can get almost 2 foot in about one year!

Most monitors, can grow real fast especially with lots of food. There is an article on the internet about a savannah that a guy had that hit around 40" in about 1.5 years.
