Russian egg early this year....YAHOO!!
Came home from work and female #2 has started laying eggs, well.........an egg.
She spent 2 1/2 hours covering that egg. Here she is almost done. When finished she is so, so weak. She went straight for water to drink. I still can't believe those huge eggs come from them.
Last month I split the pen into sections. I rotate the male into a different pen every 7 days. The females seem more receptive when they have their own space, and the male is introduced to them on their turf.
Come on Cameron .....my girls are ahead by 1.

D'OH!!!!!!! That's awesome man! Wondering if I should find some way to separate mine. I'm so jealous! Of course, the may have laid a dozen eggs there for all I know, the dirt is easy to dig in and they are always down in it. I don't think I'm going to go searching though...then again...maybe I will try and do that tomorrow...very carefully!
Re: Russian egg early this year....YAHOO!!
I would. I use a spoon and a stiff bristled wisk broom to search. I don't think I would if it was a big area, but the way we have them housed it is not that big of an area to search.

Congrats and nice enclosure. The egg size is amazing. Several other biologists I know have compared it to a woman giving birth through her nostril. ROFL.
Keep up posted.

Re: Russian egg early this year....YAHOO!!
did a little searching today, didn't find anything. there are so many places that they could be though, it's almost impossible if i didn't see her actually dig the hole.
Re: Russian egg early this year....YAHOO!!
I can't really call it a pattern yet but, both times I caught mine laying eggs was in the evening and the time it took was about 4 hours.

O.K........Now this girl quit eating 5 days ago and laid her eggs today. She laid them this morning in her hide. She dug the hole, laid 3 eggs, and covered them in 45 minutes. The only thing she did that was the same as the other female was not eating for 5 days prior to laying the eggs.

I've seen him doing what i thought was the deed. maybe he's a dud. what i am HOPING is happening though is that they are laying and burying them and i just don't see it. i have had a female that stopped eating for a week or so and she is eating now. i am hoping that she laid and i just didn't see it. my largest female has been buried for the past 4 days, even today. maybe she's getting ready?

Re: Russian egg early this year....YAHOO!!
Alright! With this egg....all 3 of my females are laying eggs this year. The male is in his own pen by himself now......got to put some weight back on him, he has only had one thing on his mind for the last 2 months.
I was a little concerned for this girl. She dug a really nice almost cylindrical hole with those back legs (don't know how they do it), but it took her all day to put one egg in there. It looked like she was having trouble. All is good now though.

I am up to 11 eggs now, and all appear to be fertile. First one should hatch anyday. Hope I get lucky and get to take some pictures of the hatching. I am incubating for more females than males so in time, I can have C/B babies from C/B parents.

my hats off to you man. not sure what is going on around here. i either have eggs in the dirt somewhere or my male is a dud. big congrats man. i hope they all hatch for you.
Re: Russian egg early this year....YAHOO!!
Maybe this weekend I can come over and help look for eggs....I can bring my male over and let him spend a week or so. He has been in a pen by himself since the females started laying eggs.
