Re: Pics of my Rhino Ratsnakes and coxi
Thanks all! (I figured some of you'd prefer some pics of them over the vids that I posted a while back)
I am really enjoying all 4 of these snakes! Asian ratsnakes are so cool, and I really hope that once I am up and breeding a good number of species of them that I will be able to aid in a rise in their popularity!

They look good. I like any snake with a stripe running down its back.

Re: Pics of my Rhino Ratsnakes and coxi
Thanks everybody! I am rather proud of these snakes! Especially of the rhino rats!!!
For those of you that are not too familiar with Asian Colubrids, the rhino ratsnakes will change colors as they mature from a grey/silver to a bright green! Below is a pic of one of the adult rhinos that the breeder I got mine from has!

What is the purpose/theory of the "horn" on the rhino rats? What beautiful animals!

As far as I am aware there has been no legit scientific data as to why they have the horns.tandy wrote:What is the purpose/theory of the "horn" on the rhino rats? What beautiful animals!

I wouldn't think it would be due to sexual selection since they are not sexually dimorphic (both males and females possess horns), and I have heard of no sensory importance in the structures. I would guess it is just to aid in crypsis (camouflage) by giving the head a more stick/leaf like appearance. And the "horn" is actually very fleshy and flexible, although it appears to be quite stiff.
But whatever the reason for the nose appendage, it sure makes for one awesome, unusual, and unique snake!

Agreed! That's interesting that both males and females have them. I thought you might say because "the chicks dig horns," but the camo theory fits perfectly.
Isn't it funny how we know so much about biology, but there is so much we don't know or even know we don't know?
