Aqua Blue Iguana
I saw an "Aqua Blue Iguana" today for sale for considerable more money than a green iguana baby. Is it true that these change colors as they get older and look just like the green iguana's do? He was really gorgeous and I have made my mind up about getting another iguana. I know, I know that most of you would try to talk me out of it.
Anyway, anyone know anything about the "color morph"???

Re: Aqua Blue Iguana
I am almost positive you are talking about the aqua blues that petco can get....
It's a locality that fades with age and they turn into regular green igs.
Tom Crutchfield is the only person (to my knowledge) that is actually producing axanthic iguanas (no yellow makes 'em blue) that are true blues and stay blue. and they are AMAZING!! Have yet to see any for sale...but considering his price on albinos I bet they will be ridiculously pricey.

Thanks, I'm not looking to pay alot of money for a true "blue", this little guy was 150.00, not near what the other would cost. If there is no color that stays when they get older than I guess I don't need to spend the extra on him. Too bad he won't keep just a little bit of the aqua/blue color!!
Do you know if they fade out completely within a few months or does it take a few years?

Re: Aqua Blue Iguana
Most of them will be completely green in a few months to a year.
You're best bet if your not wanting to pay the outrageous price i'm sure crutchfield has for blue's is to look for Diamond iguanas (I think that's what their called?) they are regular green iggies that just happen to have a lot of blue on their face and necks.
Then you've got el salvator igs and various other locals, and honestly...florida igs are some of the nicest i have seen... they tend to have more heavy black patterning and a brighter green.

Is Tom a local guy? I don't know why or where I know that name from? Or is there anyone that is local to get one that your reffering to? I don't like to order animals online.

Re: Aqua Blue Iguana
Tom Crutchfield is a very big breeder in Florida, as I said, he is the only one I know of with true blue iguanas...
Haven't heard of anyone here breeding iguanas at all... seems like there are very few actual breeders since they are farmed in mass quantities already to provide pet stores -.-

Re: Aqua Blue Iguana
So if I wanted to get a Diamond or Florida one you would recommend me order one from him? Does he have a web site?

oh diamonds... hmm i would have to look into those and see if he has them or who does... they might be a local, i'm really not sure. but Crutchfield would be the one to talk to on igs. I think his sight is simply Tomcrutchfieldreptiles.com or something simple like that.
Re: Aqua Blue Iguana
I googled him and pulled up his website and it has been Feb of this year since it says he has updated his available list. All's I saw was some pretty expensive ones. Hundreds and thousand of dollars, yikes!
