I've been out looking for some to add to my 55 gallon tanks,but can't find any plenty of zebra mussels tho.

Sorry to hear about the Zebra Mussels though.

We've been catching Mud cats and channel cats with zebra mussle fragments in there bellys for some time now. The Mussles have prolly been here longer then reported. I'm kinda excited about the crabs tho:)

On a side note, Lake Texoma is salty enough to support a large variety of sea fish. IE Sharks

I'm sure you've heard about Bull Sharks coming up the Mississippi.....and breeding.

It would be pretty cool to have sharks in Texoma. I don't swim anyway, so I wouldn't mind them

I didn't hear about the Mississippi Sharks. I know Bull and Tigers will stay in fresh water rivers for a long time. Only thing stopping sharks from migrating would be the Denison Dam.

What kind of crabs?

Pretty sure with all the things that go one out at the islands, there has been some sort of crab around Texoma for a while.

They're called Harris Mud Crabs, and they live in 3 feet of water and less. You can find them around the rocky areas. We have them here at the OU Biological Station at the boat houses. They were first discovered in Texoma about 3 years ago. There is a researcher here at the station that has some in a tank, and he is doing his research on them. Right now, nobody is sure where they came from or how.

Arbuckle has baby leeches at the bottom. Going after feet. I don't think these are the kind that bite. They just seem to be looking for existing cuts in the skin.

I read a article that Lake Nacona has a established population of Harris Crabs for over a decade now, and Lake Nacona evently drains into the Red River up stream of Lake Texoma. So possible infestation route there. I'm just waiting for Snake Heads or some vicious fish species to be released possbily a brackish water predator fish....I believe the main body of the lake sality is like 1.09ish.

Sheesh! The crabs are literally everywhere. I went down to the swim beach today, and flipped a few rocks and found a dozen or so, mostly small. Tonight I went down there and found way more, some over an inch across. Awesome little guys!!!

That's freakin cool. I had no idea that the lake water had some salt in it. I'm curious how the crabs got there and what other animals could be living there that you wouldn't normaly find in a lake.
