Ribbon snake care?
I've seen a few care sheets for these guys but most are unbelievably complicated. Do I really need to have a heat range from low 60s up to 90 ish? If I have to Provide a temp that low, I won't be able to keep one because ambient temp in my snake room is 82. Any advice or a better care sheet you can recommend?
Re: Ribbon snake care?
FalconPunch,
Ribbon Snake care is almost identical to Garter Snake care.
If the ambient room temperature is 82 and there's a slight drop at night, you're good.
If there's a window (for light) or a ceiling light that will suffice.
You really don't need any supplemental heat or light.
Keep in mind that Ribbon Snakes are "semiaquatic". so be sure to provide a large
water dish.
That will also help with the humidity requirement.
I'm sure you know what to feed Ribbon Snakes, but if you try earthworms, stay away
from red wigglers.
I hope this helps.

Re: Ribbon snake care?
If your room is 82 with a slight drop at night, neither one is necessary, but if you want
to use something, I'd use under the cage heat instead of a heat lamp.
I would not put the heat under the water bowl.
Put it under the opposite end.
If your snake is wild caught, I'd treat it for internal parasites and be sure to keep it in
quarantine.
Also, make sure it's the last snake you clean and feed when you're working with your
snakes.
