My New Arrivals!
I got my two new Red Tailed Green Rat Snakes in on Tuesday morning! They are awesome! Both are wc from the island of Java, Indonesia. They have been treated for internal and external parasites. The female is a silver phased one, and she is about 4.5' long. The male is not even 2' yet. He is a normal colored (green) one.
Some pics:
The male
And the silver female. (she has quite a bit of yellow specking)
green head on female
she is aboult 4.5 feet long. this pic kinda shows the length better.
Hope you all enjoy the pics! This is definitely my favorite species of snake! I will post a video if I ca figure out how... lol

No, he will stay green. In the locality these were from (Java, Indonesia) there are several color phases. The green ones are the most widespread throughout other Asian countries, while certain color phases such as the silver, brown, orange, and yellow, are specific to certain localities. I don't fully understand the genetics of the different phases, but I do know that they aren't exactly simple recessive traits though.
Not to many people work with these (especially around here). Hopefully I will be able to breed them and get a mix of some silvers and green ones! Most available are wc (such as these), but my other green female that I have had for almost two years was a cbb.

Haha! It's alright man! Oh, and yes, it is cool how they will puff up their necks like that! Here are two pics of that little male doing that. (sorry for the really bad pics, but they were the only two I got of him doing it) My blue beauty snake also does the same thing with her throat!ZakO wrote:Ok so I'm a little slow. -from the post on the debate on substrate: I didn't know they puffed their throats out like that.

Re: My New Arrivals!
I gotta say Those are some gorgeous snakes...do they act WC crazy? You seem to be holding them quite a bit so that's good.
Re: My New Arrivals!
Thanks! Yeah, they are both extremely defensive, and both readily bite. I actually have only held them twice for a few minutes each both times. I want them to acclimate well, so I am trying to refrain from any more handling for a while. I also have covered the fronts of their enclosures with a dark colored blanket in order to reduce stress levels (they are being quarantined in our living room, and there is a lot of traffic through there). Once they are well acclimated I will begin to handle them more in order to attempt to calm them during handling.sbender99 wrote:I gotta say Those are some gorgeous snakes...do they act WC crazy?
