Picked Up A Pixie Today
Bryan had babies at AA, and I couldn't resist. I've wanted a baby pixie for a while. Pics to come.
Re: Picked Up A Pixie Today
Here are a couple of pics of my new addition. I don't know the sex yet, and it is probably too early to tell. I'm not picky with these. Females stay smaller, but they don't call or eat as much, and males get huge, but they call, and the food bill would go up, so either way it's about even .
Here is the frog. It immediately scarfed a couple of dusted crickets and went into the hide.
Here is the setup I put together real quick. It will outgrow this pretty fast and will end up in a 20 gallon long.
Say cheese!!

That's a cool frog. What do they think about being handled?

Well, just like any critter, it depends on the individual. The adult that was in the raffle a few months back did not mind being picked up. She was too fat to do much about it though . This species does have teeth (more like fangs), so handlers should be careful not to dangle fingers in front of their mouths.
That being said, I plan on handling this one when it gets bigger. As with any amphibian, minimal handling is best, but there is just something about picking up a 6 to 9 inch frog that makes me happy . Obviously, hands should be thoroughly washed and rinsed before and after handling any amphibian, since their skin can absorb chemicals and soap.

This thing is so funny. It can take a whole nightcrawler, even at this size, without any problems at all. It is hilarious to watch it use those stubby little hands to shove food into its mouth.
We have named him/her Tinkerbell.

Yep. They get big, fat, and green, but I still like them for some reason.

Here is a more recent pic of Tinkerbell. This thing is growing really fast. He/she is already in a 20g long and eating adult dubias and small rodents. Still really nippy right now, but I think it will calm down when it is full grown.
