It's That Time of the Year Again!
Okay, I have some photos of my catches to post now!
On my Spring Break trip to Colorado I found an area with a ton of Fence Lizards on a nice warm day!
Once I got back home from Colorado I did some herping at some of my local places. I surprisingly had some good success! All the snakes that I could find were all the typical small types/young ones, but the numbers made up for the lack of bigger snakes! lol
Ring-Necked Snake
Found a total of 22 Ring-Necked Snakes, 1 Rough Earth Snake, 2 young Ribbon Snakes, and 5 Five Lined Skinks!
Ribbon Snakes found near a pond!
Adult male Five Lined Skink
Juvenile Five Lined Skink
Rough Earth Snake
I am very excited to have the season starting off so well!

I'm so glad we found all those Ring Necks! They are really pretty! Hopefully on our next herp trip we will find more of a variety of snakes though.

Re: It's That Time of the Year Again!
This seems to be the time of year to find ringnecks. It was about this time last year that I was finding 5 or 6 every night at the park across from my house. I didn't see any more after about the end of May and beginning of June though. I'm going to start checking for them tonight.
Re: It's That Time of the Year Again!
Before that trip I had never found more than like 3 ring-neck snakes on one herp hunt! lol Michael, I do remember you finding all of those ring necks at night this time of year last year. Maybe next weekend I'll find some bigger snakes if it's good weather!

Fence lizards are really cool looking. I just wish they were a few hundred times larger. That would be a cool pet lizard.
Re: It's That Time of the Year Again!
Yeah, a hundred times larger Fence Lizard would be awesome!!! It would be kinda like an adult Bearded Dragon, but more Fence Lizardish! lol

Do ring necks lay eggs or is it live birth?

I think they are live birth. They are also rear-fanged venomous.

I didn't know they were rear fanged. That's interesting.gatsu7 wrote:ZakO wrote:Do ring necks lay eggs or is it live birth?

I'm not sure of the legality but couldn't one take the biggest male you find and biggest female you find and selectively breed for size?

If you're a Sceloporus fan mother nature has already done that.
The Blue Spiny Lizard (S. cyanogenys), about 14 inches.
