Great Plains Rat
For those of you that don't know, I work as the Naturalist at Alabaster Caverns. We were in some nearby caves over the weekend doing bat counts, sampling, etc. and one of the team found about a 2 ft long Great Plains Ratsnake coiled up at one of the cave openings. It seems he went into turpor and never recovered, but it was a beautifully preserved specimen. It had a massive eye infection which I think most likely left it vulnerable, but it was cool to see. They had me ID it before they took it to the college to mount it. You never know what you're going to find.
