Chief just chilling
Two tortoises can fit in the pool if one is smaller. Chief seems to enjoy it the most.

Tortoises, especially redfoots, don't need a fancy place but do require a hot and a cool spot especially when the summer is near 100 degrees. Three of the biggers torts pile atop one another to be in a muddy hole with a roof. One tort stays under the droopy leaves of a native grass. Two have been forced to sit in a shaded area with no mud hole. In the cooler hours of the morning and evening Chief and one other parade around the perimeter getting some sun and really enjoy having the sprinkler turned on. Two of the torts prefer drinking out of a muddy depression when I fill it with water. Others prefer drinking out of the "swimming pool" especially with poop in it. The funniest time, and I will photograph it, is when I dump a container of 24 nightcrawlers into the pen. One tries to hog all of them by sitting on them, one smaller tort drags one or two away so it can be eaten in peace. Others are just happy to dig right in. I love watching the various behaviors of creatures, and most of all my torts.
How many tortoises are in this pile?

Nice! Your tortoises look great! Lately I have been turning on the sprinkler twice a day. They do like sprinklers don't they.

A lot of my box turtles that are hiding under the leaf litter during this heat, come out
like earthworms when I turn on the sprinklers.

Funny to watch !
Just now out on my patio, a group of house sparrows didn't know what to think
about a box turtle.
It appeared she was trying to catch one of the sparrows.
She kept crawling as fast as she could towards the closest one, but they stayed
just out of her reach.

If you have the patience to watch tortoises they are very curious about their surroundings. Chasing a bird doesn't surprise me. So fun.

Jumper, you are right. More would probably try to fit in if it was possible.
