What I see from my kayak
These were taken at Stinchcomb Refuge on 3/24/2012
Yesterday I found an adult red-eared slider attempting to swim but not getting anywhere. He could not submerge and was just flailing trying to get to the bottom. I picked him up and he had a gaping mouth and when he shut it white stuff oozed out. I put him back on the bank since doubt he is long for this world.

Awesome Alice! You have me beat on snake finds for the year. All I've found was a tiny orange striped ribbon snake at Blue River, and it got away. Is that a big Texas rat snake in the tree, or a water snake? I can't tell because I'm looking from a small screen.
Re: What I see from my kayak
good stuff!
The first snake really looks like a rat, and I'm guessing the second is a
plainbelly water snake.
looks like a good herping area. Thanks for sharing.

As soon as you get your kayak, Mike (hint, hint) you will be able to help me ID the snakes. I know diddley squat about snakes. I thought maybe the first pic was a blotched water snake...is there such a thing?
The second one was much darker but you could see a dim pattern.
