Cool videos.
Really like how you've laid out the tape so we can see growth/size.

Do tegus need bones in their meat or do you dust with a calcium product for optimum health? Never having had these lizards, I'm wondering what the optimum diet is. Nice videos!

Re: Tegu update and feeding videos
I feed chicken gizzards with phosphate free calcium powder most days with mice once a week to supplement their diet. Many people use ground turkey as well but I find it is much too messy compared the the gizzards.

OK. I take it these guys aren't insectivores like some of the smaller tegus. Completely carnivorous, too? Thanks for taking the time to share so much info--you're educating me!

Re: Tegu update and feeding videos
Which tegu species are you referring to that are insectivores? All the lizards referred to as dwarf tegus are not tegus. Almost all the true tegus reach over 4 foot as adults which is much to large to rely entirely on insects. All my tegus lost interest in insects around 24"

Re: Tegu update and feeding videos
Ah, I see. I had read a bit about Argentine and Columbian Tegus. Now that you've explained, I went back to look again; found a better, more thorough care sheet and saw that they only feed insects to hatchlings up to about a year of age. Makes sense.
Thanks again for my education!
