Re: HR511 Hearing
Ha. They forgot to turn the microphone off for a second. Someone was asking to "leave boa constrictors on there because that's the one that kills all the children". The other guy said "the deaths are all because of stupid people and we can't legislate against stupid". These are the uninformed idiots who get to control our lives...
Re: HR511 Hearing
Rep Chavetts from Utah tried to get boa constrictor removed, but was ganged up on by everyone else and the amendment was shot down.

Re: HR511 Hearing
Unfortunately, I have to go somewhere and can't finish listening. They are arguing over trivial amendments at this point. The bill will pass out of the committee with no meaningful amendments.
Re: HR511 Hearing
Final outcome:
1. The bill passed out of committee (bad)
2. An amendment to remove boas was introduced and quickly shot down (bad)
3. 2 additional amendments were introduced, but both were just wording changes that did not change the intent of the bill. (neutral)
4. House Republicans and Democrats finally agreed on something. (Good)
5. Unfortunately, the thing they agreed on was this horrible bill (bad)
6. Many representatives, including Berman, Scott, and others, obviously see snakes and the pet trade as dangerous and a risk to public safety. (Bad)
Now the real fight begins, just as it did last year and the year before. The bill has been marked up and it is now our job to kill it with facts and logic, just as we did last year and the year before.
