Bearded Dragon Feeding issues
My rescue Bearded Dragon(fredie) has always had a problem eating. He will only eat orange things and dark green things. but lately he's ignoring all veggies and feeder insects I offer to him. I've noticed he's loosing alittle weight in his tail it seems like and he hasn't shed for almost 6 months. I took him to the local vet, but she has limited experience with herps. His X-ray showed no blockages and nothing in his intestine.
Has any one else had these issues with dragons?
Lately he just sleeps in his borrow, I'm thinking his age has started to catch up with him. he's approx 6-8 years old.

Try rolling a green pea or two in front of him when he's awake and paying attention.
Sometimes the movement will get them to eat the peas.
If all else fails try offering him some wax worms.
They're lizard candy.

Maybe a good soak and Dr Minson. However get in with Dr Minson tomorrow or he'll be gone for the rest of the month on vacation.

Re: Bearded Dragon Feeding issues
Doing better, I figured out why he wasn't interested in dubia roaches. I noticed he was hanging around his water bowl, which is built into a foam ledge today. I took the ledge off for cleaning and discovered a nest of dubia nymph's......I guess one of the roaches had escaped him some how and was pregnant....He's been snacking on dubia nymph's for who knows how long now... I decided to do early cage cleaning and double check for any stray bugs.
I've managed to get him to eat some slice carrots and a few green beans, but he's been a picky eater when it came to veggies. his previous owners really took poor care of him. No UV light nor did they offer a variety of veggies, cept for carrots..
I tested the UV/UVA lights today with a meter and double checked all the temps, went ahead and replaced his ceramic bulb with a new one. I've got his whole heating/lighting system on timers. Decided to go thru it and check up on the components and made sure they were functioning normal.
He seemed to be doing better the last few days, his color has improved, especially his eye lid color when he's sleeping. I've been keeping track of his weight and hopefully he'll start putting on some weight.

I swear I baby this dragon like a kid. I'm getting the feeling he's starting to reach the end of his life sadly, but I made sure to provide a good home while he was in my care.
If I know myself and my fiance is going to be gone alot and not sped time with him. I hook up a small lcd tv and put it against his cage....he watches animal planet alot...

That is so cool. I wish all owners went through that kind of care for their babies. This planet would be a much better place.
Re: Bearded Dragon Feeding issues
Just a quick update, I purchased a Faux Feeding bowl that vibrates, made by Zoomed I think....anyways comes with a remote, and makes a cricket sound when activated, It vibrates the food items around alot. So far my dragon has feed alot off it, he perks right up and runs over when He hears the sounds. I've used veggies/mealworms on it so far and it really activates his feeding response.
