Mangrove health issues -.- Empty Mangrove health issues -.-

So... I had to pull the mangrove out the other day to get some stuck shed off and I noticed his somewhat advanced case of Respiratory Infection Sad He has no audible breathing but he has quite an excess of mucus and breaths bubbles under stress.... I guess that is one rather annoying disadvantage of hots, handling them less makes problems like that less likely to be discovered... Just looking at him in his cage, I would never have known.
In addition to the RI he has a slight case of stomatis, likely a secondary infection brought on by the mouth rot.
I do not think this is a recent problem that developed over night or anything, it seems to me like something that has been in the works for a while, possibly even before I got him, although at this point in time (until I talk with the previous owner) I think it may have started during shipping when he was cooled rather significantly if only for a night...

So as to what I am doing about this.
I have him in a quarantine sterelite tub, minimalistic set up. He has a UTH, news paper, and a hide. He gets access to water at night (when he is awake to get to it) from a tiny little water bowl to keep as little humidity as possible.

I scrubbed his mouth clean with a qtip dipped in chlorhexidine to remove the little bits of white crap (yes thats the scientific term) and fight the bacteria in there. I will probably repeat this in a few days...

And now.... we wait...

Sylvias,

Sounds like a good treatment plan, but I'd get him to Dr. Minson ASAP.

Hope that treatment helps him make a quick recovery! Just let me know when you will need me to help you out with him again. (And at least neither of us got bit by him the other day! lol)

I don't suppose anyone has an email for Dr. Minson. I am hesitant to call in to his office at petsmart (?) only for them to tell me to make an appointment and come in -.- That is out of the question until I get the heater in my car fixed... which will hopefully be within a couple of days but I would like to get his opinion on things before that..

the mangrove is doing well so far, less mucus and no longer breathing bubbles so that's comforting, his mouth is also looking better. Next concern once i get him better will be to address the two little lumps along his back that did not just go away as I'd hoped they might =/ Unfortunately the problem with little mystery bumps is that they can be anything from parasites to cancer so i will most likely need to bring him in for a biopsy. Dr Minson has been very helpful to me and said I was doing good with the respiratory infection and he shouldn't need to be brought in for that unless it gets worse (he also offered to let me shadow him for a day sometime!). I emailed him last night asking how much it would be to bring him in for a biopsy and awaiting that response... hopefully it's not going to be ...toooo to bad.... like I'm not in enough debt as it is....

Glad he's doing better. Let us know what the biopsy shows.
