Best. Night drive. EVER!

My heart is still pounding....
Got a wild hair up my <expletive> last night around 9pm and was just like... i wanna go herpin.. like right now....
So called up Cameron to see if he was up for it... course he was... a few minutes later we were on the way to our destination. A short road, maybe 5 miles or so in length?.... that he's seen a lot of DORs on so figured we'd give it a shot.
So as soon as we pull onto this road... the first thing we see... is a snake.. and still alive! from a distance it looks like it might be a water snake, then we get closer and we start thinking... ooh a rattler??I jump out to get a better look while he's moving the car to the side and my heart skips a beat as I get close enough to see a better defined pattern.....

Not wanting to believe myself... I get right up to it (still at a safe distance) and scream "IT'S A TIMBER!!!"
this is what I am looking at as I am so hyped up and excited to do anything but grin like an idiot lol

as a result of my spastic announcement he comes hurrying to see..... This is a favorite for both of us of course and how could we be so lucky to find it first thing in the night!? AHHH XD


first time i've seen one in the field and he was so well behaved for us lol


Sooo exhilarating!!!
that was the only live snake we found last night but we did see a big DOR timber a little ways down. Looks to be a productive spot...so we shall be returning.... >=)
i am still all jittery from our find last night... XD

From your shots, if it's not just puffed up, it looks very well fed or gravid.

I think he was just puffed up, after a while he had calmed down even more so and wasn't huffin and puffin anymore. Definitely not gravid though, just a little guy, we estimated probably a yearling
