My first dart frog eggs
I had 2 males for 2 years. I finally got a female about a month ago. Things went really fast and I am getting eggs. The first clutch had 3 eggs with 1 good egg. The other clutches...... so far, seem to be all good.
My 2 males
All 3....
My egg incubator

Re: My first dart frog eggs
that's awesome David. are you going to be selling the babies or keeping them and growing a huge collection?
Re: My first dart frog eggs
I look at them a lot. While I was watching it came out of the jell. It was quick.
Now, I just wait for the next stage.

Re: My first dart frog eggs
This morning I found him floating on his back....aaahhhh! While I was nudging on him he would try to go down, but floated back up. When I put on my glasses I saw an air bubble in his belly. During one of my nudges down he got vertical with the tail down, and I guess he 'burped', because the air bubble came out of his mouth and he went straight for food, and seems fine now.

Re: My first dart frog eggs
I just hope it somehow swallowed an air bubble, and that it was not generated in the body in some way. The NARBC ? no, I won't be going.

Just came across this and thought i'd ad my two cents. It was most likely an air bubble.
This happens when tads feed at the surface of the water and they ingest air. You should try feeding foods that are pre-soaked or pellets of food that sink to the bottom of the containers, if too much air is ingested it can be harmful to the tad.
I've raised hundreds upon hundreds of dart tads and I have dealt with this on occasion.
What would most likely happen if the tad continued to ingest too much air would be improper development of the front legs (which would then cause the tad to die not long after morphing out into a froglet.)
Hope all goes well with your tads! Feel free to email or PM me any time with questions!
Re: My first dart frog eggs
Thanks for the input Josh, I appreciate it. And for the helping hand offer, I really appreciate that. I feed with tadpole bites dusted with micron powder. I noticed when I would just plop one on the surface and let it sink it actually had air bubble on the pellet. Now I dip it in water first, then bring it out, then drop it in and there are no tiny bubbles on the pellet. If that is what you mean by pre-soaked, it helps.

That's a pretty good way to do it!
Re: My first dart frog eggs
Getting a little bigger. We had that short warm spell and she quit depositing eggs. She laid some more about 4 days ago, so maybe she is in the mood again....I don't know. I will probably know more about this next year. Just fascinating to watch their interaction, play, and courting behavior.
My bumblebees are growing fast! Lot of fun watching them learn how to hunt and catch prey.

Re: My first dart frog eggs
O.K...... The back legs are here. If I understand it right, there is no need to put them in a morphing container until I see front legs popping out.

Re: My first dart frog eggs
The front legs are popping out, so I moved to 6 quart that is tilted with sphagnum moss at top. Something I am not sure about is what point to stop feeding pellets, because of the changes in their mouth....................Josh?
