Collared Lizards

Post  Snakeman on Sun Jul 01, 2012 1:46 pm

Took one of our summer drives across Lake Draper's dam.

12 Collared Lizards.

Not close to our record of 22, but still quite a few.

Cool!!! Saw or caught? I am helping with research on Collared Lizards, and we see tons at our field sight, although 22 is pushing it for what I have seen in one day probably. We easily catch 12 or so on a good day (we could probably get more, but there are only certain ones that we need to target for capture). They are fun little lizards! And the big males sure have a good bite... lol

We have about 15 hatchlings that just hatched out for us right now, and have some more eggs cooking, and then even more eggs on the way! Very Happy The hatchlings are super cute!

Saw.

It would be really difficult to catch these.

They are all over the rocks that make up the dam and without a noose on a long pole

they would duck out of sight quickly.

Sounds like a cool project.

I think they are really great lizards.

There's a study sight at Arcadia Lake also, but I'm not sure who uses it.

Yeah, we catch ours with nooses on the ends of telescoping fishing poles. And our main study sight is on a dam at Sooner Lake. Loads of them out on those rocks!
