I bought one of Larry's snakes--a female Honduran Milk Snake that he had been trying to sell for awhile; he'd sold her to someone else, but that person decided not to keep her and sold her back to Larry. I kinda thought that next summer I'd do some research about breeding and make preparations to do so using my male buckskin morph Honduran.

Turns out that previous owner had already bred her at some point. Six days after I acquired her, she laid eggs.

Larry helped me out for setting up a quick incubation box with sphagnum moss. We ended up moving them into our bathroom, as it has a floor heating system that we are running at 80 degrees continuously. Surprisingly (considering how unready I was for this event), the eggs appear to be doing well, even the one I thought might be a dud: I don't see any mold or fungus growing on them, and they look full.

My question: do snake eggs develop what appear to be cracks or maybe veins on the inside that are showing through and sort of look like cracks, as a normal part of development? I'm not really sure what they should look like.

This is certainly an interesting way to deal with my first snake egg incubation!

Sandy,

I'm really glad to hear the eggs seem to be doing well.

I learned never to throw an egg away even when it's smaller than the rest.

Keep eggs until they begin to decompose.

What you're seeing are probably blood vessels and that's good. Very Happy

I can now see blood vessels developing on all the eggs, so they are continuing to do well. I'm amazed, considering how unprepared we were to incubate at this time!

BTW, the mom is doing well do. She acted like F/T critters were nothing new--FOOD!!!! GRAB IT, QUICK! The only concern I had was that she didn't poop for three weeks. The first week, I didn't worry about that much because I figured moving had been stressful. The second week, I thought maybe being full of eggs and then laying had slowed her system down. By the third week, I was feeling some concern . . . then she defecated just fine (though a rather copious amount)! So everything appears to be quite normal.

Thanks for sharing her with me, Larry!
