Taxidermy Snakes Empty Taxidermy Snakes

Post  gatsu7 Tue Aug 23, 2011 10:02 am

Does anyone know where I can get a good deal on a taxidermy native pit viper (species doesn't really matter)? I want to buy one for use in educational programs.

Thanks,
Michael

Michael,

You might call the gift shop at the Museum of Osteology 814-0006.

I know they have the complete skeletons and skulls, but I don't know about the

complete snakes.

You might also try the American International Rattlesnake Museum (505) 242-6569 or

www.rattlesnakes.com.

I'll bet they have them and they will probably ship.

Yeah, I saw that. That seems really pricey for a dead snake.

Thanks guys. I was thinking about Cherokee Trading Post already, and it looks like that is where I will get it. Their website has them for about $106. I'll just pick one up the next time I head west.

I've talked to some local taxidermists about getting some of my frozen snakes mounted for the same purpose. Their price on average is $10/inch! A 2-foot snake would be around $240.

I have a frozen copperhead in my freezer if you want it. I'm sure there are plenty of places around here to take it.

Wow. I guess those guys know that they have a niche market and can charge a lot for their service. I'm just going to get a western diamondback at Cherokee Trading Post or somewhere like that. I may get some different species later though.

I'm afraid I would end up in jail if I went to one of those stupid round-ups. I can usually control my temper, but there is too much stupid for me to handle at those things.
