Black Widow

Post  tandy on Thu Jul 21, 2011 4:19 pm

Well my pics didn't turn out, but I have an enormous black widow female on the front of my house. I think she's the largest one I've ever seen. Her abdomem would easily overlap a dime and possibly fill a nickel well. I've never seen one so shiny. Beautiful!!! She has a spent egg sac and two males in her web and she's making them tow the line carefully. They're a little bit skittish. I wish I could get some good pics. Some people are bird watchers and then there's me Laughing .

Cool!! I love black widows. Mine is around that size too, but I feed her regularly. That is a huge one for being in the wild.

Tandy, I'd much rather watch a spider build a web than go bird watching!

The males have been successful at some point. She is spinning a new egg sac as we speak. I always have black widows if someone wants one. If I make it down it August, I will ask if there are any takers on some.

I might take you up on that! Is it the same care as the rest of my tarantulas?
